Been digging!

For the last couple of days I have been trying to make a dent in the work I need to do digging out the new lawn (well, first half anyway!).

Last time I was able to do any of it before the ground dried up too much, I got this far:

Garden 1803162

After yesterday and today’s efforts, it now looks like this:

Not bad considering I have done all of this on my own with just a spade!  And for those of you wondering just how much soil I have moved so far, take a look at this pile!!

I’m pleased because I can now see the ‘back line’ to the new lawn and can start working out where to put my raised flower bed.

In other news, the MARIGOLD ‘Durango Mix’ that I sowed on 22/03/16 have already started to germinate:

And even better, the ECHINACEA ‘Pink Parasol’ which were sown on 29/02/16 are also showing signs of life 🙂

With another dry day being forecast for tomorrow, I have a feeling I will be adding to that soil pile 😉

Surprise finds in the garden!

Having been pretty much in the tunnel for the last few days, I hadn’t really had the chance to have a good potter round the garden to see what was occurring.

It’s quite surprising what a few days of sunshine and then a good downpour of rain will encourage out of the soil.

Firstly DAFFODILS.  The bulbs that I had found around the garden and potted up for safe keeping have produced lovely green foliage, but as of yet, not even the slightest sign of a bud.

What I was surprised to find were the two clumps of  DAFFODILS that had been growing without my knowledge down the side of the polytunnel.  Unfortunately, no signs of buds here either, but they were an unexpected find.

It would appear my ongoing fight with my arch nemesis, MUSCARI is still far from over.  They are springing up all over the place and something I really must get on top of.

I have a patch of lovely little yellow VIOLETS which are in completely the wrong place, but have added a welcome splash of colour to an otherwise baron landscape.

I have a HONEYSUCKLE (again, in the wrong place!!) which has spurted into life and has shot up from literally no where.  I had hoped to get this moved over the Winter, but as with most things, I ran out of time.

In germination news, my first TOMATO seed has germinated 🙂

Rain :)

Not much to report today from BBHQ.  Been one of those days, were I seemed to be busy from the moment I woke up, but haven’t really got anything to show for it.

My OSTEOSPERMUM ‘Akila Mix’ have finally started germinating properly.  These have taken a little longer than I expected, but they seem to be catching up now.

I have sown another lot of PANSY ‘Giant Fancy Mix’ as they are always such a popular choice for Summer bedding.

It has rained today, although not as much as expected, for the first time in about 2 weeks.  I for one am pleased as I am hoping there has been enough of it to penetrate the ground a little so that I can carry on tomorrow digging out the rest of my new lawn.  I tried to do a bit yesterday, but the ground was that hard, it was like trying to put the space through brick!

Does anyone else still have a POINSETTIA still living from Christmas?  Mine is still hanging on in there, although to be fair, is certainly passed it’s best now.

In other news, look what Mum bought me today 🙂

125 Plants nearly ready :)

This morning I have been in the tunnel sorting out the first lot of plants that I want to put on eBay.  I was really pleased to find that there are a total of 125 that are nearly ready, I am just waiting for the roots to grow a little bit more.

The following varieties are going to be the first ones I will sell:

  • AUBRIETA ‘Blue’
  • Gaillardia ‘Burgunder’
  • PRIMULA ‘Denticulata’
  • CAMPANULA ‘Double Blue’
  • CAMPANULA ‘Double Pink’
  • CAMPANULA ‘Double White’
  • AUBRIETA ‘Red Cascade’
  • SEDUM ‘Spurium’
  • AQUILEGIA ‘Black Barlow’
  • POTENTILLA ‘Miss Wilmott’
  • POTENTILLA ‘Monarch’s Velvet’

Both of the AUBRIETA’S have started to flower and it’s nice to see some colour in the tunnel.

Some more of the seeds have sown have started to germinate 🙂

I now have little seedlings of both RUDBECKIA ‘Rustic Dwarfs Mix’ and TANACETUM ‘T&M Single Mix’.
